Throughout the Western United States, summers have become characterized more and more
by large wildfires and smoke-filled skies. Researchers in the ATMOS Department, including
Kai Wilmot, Gannet Hallar, John Lin, and Derek Mallia, have shown that the increased
wildfire activity connects to the worsening trend of poor air quality events in recent
years. And the trend does not look very good for the future throughout the West.
