Doppler on Wheels is at the U!
During November, a Center for Severe Weather Research Doppler on Wheels (DOW) radar will be deployed to the University of Utah for education and outreach thanks to sponsorship from the National Science Foundation.
A team of graduate and undergraduate students is already planning for field-deployments of the DOW to examine multirange orographic precipitation processes, lee-side spillover, microphysical processes, frontal interaction with topography, and lake-effect storms. Should the weather not cooperate, we will examine some non-meteorological aspects of radar operations and potentially biological scatterers, including migration of eared grebes near the Great Salt Lake.
To learn more about the DOW and the research that it will be used for, watch the video posted on our department Facebook page.
